Drove to Kentucky on Wednesday for the Hostage Exchange (aka Granny Camp Session 2009 Session 2) and left 60 pounds lighter. The minis brought a rolling Samsonite and a backpack each, as well as tiny golf clubs and tennis rackets. Evidently they think they are vacationing at Kellerman's...you know the place in Dirty Dancing?
We met them at Cracker Barrel where our waitress may or may not have had an emotional breakdown at our table about her weight issues. It was a Gong Show. I am picking the restaurant for pick up. It will NOT be The Crack House.
Yesterday the minis made homemade marinara, went out to lunch, hit golf balls and bought site word cards for Jack. This morning they started their chapter book of the week (Treasure Island) and made a story map with my mom. Yes, the answer to your next question is YES. Yes, my mother is THAT awesome. Gloat.
I am, well, working. Working and making lists and cleaning.
It's win-win. Pinky swear.

13 Snarky Remarks and Love Notes:
Wow! A story map?! How awesome is she!?
Aren't Grandparents just great, especially if you get a good one. I'm going to be that kind of grandparent. It's a goal of mine. I want my grand-kids to remember me like I remember my grandparents, who were awesome.
Just remember; no one puts baby in the corner! Have a great time sans kids!
Can your mom take Mr. Newlywed for a week?
Diet Coke came out of my nose at the mention of Kellerman's. . . Enjoy your quiet time.
What is a story map? It sounds cool, whatever it is!
join hands and hearts and voices, voices, hearts, and hands. At Kellerman's our friendship lasts long as the mountain stands.
Maybe your mother can explain a story map to me when she is done with the minis.
one word for you ... mcdonalds!
What I want to know is how to have granny camp without personally attending? Somehow I always end up going as the counselor!!
I *heart* that you call it Crack House.
I waited tables there for 3 years here in Orlando, and always referred to it as "the Crackhouse" in my blog.
Hey! We've got Treasure Island slated for NEXT week's chapter book. We're wrapping up the Wizard of Oz this week:)
That is too funny! The last time we were at the CB (and we do not go often) the waitress thought we had kidnapped Mary Austin (adopted from China). SERIOUSLY. Asked the child where her mommy was in a "whisper" while she was standing next to me holding my hand! "Its okay sweetie do not be afraid" Granted her red headed sister Jane Harris was holding my other hand but still! I suppose they have not heard of adoption in those them parts of NC.
Maybe they have a special work transition program for those who have been in mental hospitals for long periods of time!
